Guys, I'm not a mechanic, as you will all soon understand.. When looking into the engine on my HDI 2016 model, the battery has a cover on, with like another small cover on top of that large one. I can assess the red live battery terminal, as it has its own little box with a catch, but not the black one, as that seems to require the cover to come off the Battery itself.
As I tried this, and cannot get it to work for me, is there any other place I can put this black terminal lead. Can I use one of the wires under the first little box, or does the whole carcass come off easy. Am I making it harder than it is please? Are there any black neutral wires under the first small top cover I can use as an earth. Or do I HAVE to use the proper black terminal. If so how do you get the big cover off please, it should mean undoing all the wires on in the first little box?
Thanks all, Richard.

You can attach the black jump lead or charging lead to any metal part under the bonnet, no need to access the battery terminal.

No, just looking to charge a very low battery. Where would I put the black one If not on the natural terminal. I'd be worried to use a part of the car, if so what part?

The black terminal of the battery is attached to the car bodywork so it can "Ground" if this did not happen the red/positive would not power anything, so attaching a negative/black lead to the car is actually better than the black battery terminal in many cases, you cant damage anything conecting to the car bodywork, part of the engine is usually best, find an unpainted metal part and connect to that, any part of the engine,Richardhb wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 12:43 pm Guys, I'm not a mechanic, as you will all soon understand.. Hi
You can reply to yourself or add another post immediately to expand or update your previous post.
I don't think blu tac will be any good in an engine bay. Maybe some duct tape would be better after cleaning the plastic surface.
You can renew the duct tape each time, but it won't be very often
