After getting my "new" C3 in good fettle, I am mystified by the behaviour of the air conditioning. Every time the car is started, the air conditioning light is on, even though I have turned it off the last time I started.
Is this by design, and applies to every C3, or is it possible to turn it off? Is it controlled by the BSI module?

Hello DanniAgro
I think this question came up a while ago and the conclusion was that the air con switches on if the cabin is too hot when the car is started.
Is this happening in cold weather?

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

Thanks for the quick reply.
As the weather in question was anything but warm at most of the times I was starting my car, I can't see how it would think that it was hot enough to need air conditioning!
Interesting to hear that it's almost certainly a design feature, as it's not mentioned in any literaure I've seen, and from the way you refer to it, no one else can explain it.

In looking for the previous thread you mentioned, I came across the idea that using the air con on a cold day gave a very effective de-misting function, so it would seem that it might be useful for the air con to be on, at least until the screen has cleared. This must have been what Citroen were thinking of when they enabled the "always on" operation of the switch, as using the air con every time the car is started is a good idea, hot or cold though the weather might be.

If you have the control position set to screen the aircon will come on automatically.

Is it experience tht has taught you that, or does Citroen mention it in its literarature somewhere?

This morning, my C3s was in the sun, and so the cabin was neither hot nor cold, and when I startedit the engine, the air con light was off, I suppose this proves other posters theory that its status depends on the temperature.
