Hi,

Can anyone help?

I have an 02 plate C3, had it about 13 months.
When I first got it the alarm kept going off for no reason. Then it stopped and has been fine, until last week, the alarm started going off for no apparent reason.
It's still doing it intermittently and I have no idea why.

Any ideas??

Thanks

A difficult one to diagnose remotely but there are a few things you could try:-

1) Turn off the interior sensors using the button on dash

2) Try opening closing each door, the tailgate and the bonnet a few times, this might just free up a contact that is sticking or not making good contact.

I presume this is a factory fit alarm?

Could anything be temperature related eg when the sun comes out?

It could be related to faults within the alarm eg failing back-up battery, failing main car battery but try the above first. It may then be a case of connecting the car to diagnostic equipment to look for faults.

Best of luck!
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

Hi Laura,

I had the same problem with my 04 plate...

I had a problem with water getting into the rear screen wiper motor & shorting it out - I would get back to the car and find the wiper pointing in a different direction :)

I have now changed the motor, and have had no more false alarms :)

This isn't neccessarily your cars issue, but it is likely to be a bit of a b**ger to find... :(

You can get the alarm dissabled by using a lexia diagnosics kit ..

I would go a step further and say, you can diagnose this type of fault with a Lexia tool (info here).

With lexia connected, you can monitor door locks status, motor activations, everything. I am willing to be corrected, but I think lexia will even tell you what triggered the last alarm activation. This can narrow things down quickly. It will take patience waiting for the alarm to trigger, make sure your laptop battery is fully charged :)

Thank you for the suggestions, I will look into the lexia kit!
