Hi, I have recently sorted out my central locking. I have one more thing to sort out. When I switch the on aircon the fan will not switch on although I know the fan works when the engine gets hot. I did a test with Lexia and you can hear the compressor click. Can someone tell me if the refrigerant is low, will that stop the fan and compressor from switching on.
Thanks for your help, Jeff

Hi Outbound1

When you say fan I guess you mean the one under the bonnet? That only runs as required but you are correct about the compressor, it won't engage if the aircon pressure is low.

Have a look around the internet for offers on aircon test/re-gas. There's usually an offer on from one of the fast-fit auto centres ;)
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

Hi Jeff, Well done. Its good to hear jobs are fixed. Did you post the solution if you asked a question, if not is there anything you can add to the forum about the fault you had with your central locking issue?

I don't understand which fan you mean when you say 'the engine gets hot'.

Is this the engine cooling fan? or the A/C blower in the car?

What test did you do in lexia?

If the refrigerant is low, of course the compressor won't run, but that is not the only reason the compressor won't run, in fact its quite a long list. But if you have access to lexia, why not check the status of the refrigerant, the A/C compressor activation and if its disabled, check all the reasons it is disabled and you and then work on those.

Does you temperature gauge work?

Looks like you got there first.

Click here for f1autocentres site where you can book a aircon service online and drop the car into your nearest centre.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes when I said fan I did mean the engine cooling fan. All I could find on the Lexia was a check for the compressor. It just said listen for a click, which is what happened. I did hope to see a local A/C specialist today, but he is away for a week. I was hoping to find a bit more info in the Lexia regarding fluid levels, but I could only find the compressor test under aircon.

Also forgot to mention, yes the temperature gauge does work.

The is plenty more.

These are some examples of lexia screens that carry A/C system information. Not all of it is in the 'CLIM REGULEE' look in the BSI and the engine ECU too.

In one of them there is the A/C system pressure and lots of information on how it works. You will have to look at your own car to see all the options and sensors fitted to it as they may differ from these on a 2002 Diesel Delphi ECU.
