im having a problem with the cooling system.. im trying to bleed it for air bubbles, but after a quick trip after thinking i have solved it with alot of bleeding, the freaking resovoir tank looks like a jacuzzi and there is alot of bubbles (before and after i take the cap off). no way there can be THAT much air in the system. its under preasure when u take the cap of, and there is no leakage. i have changed the termostat, soo that should be in order. any bright ideas? its all ok when idle

Hi, - I think I read somewhere that the manual heating must be openend (on 'hot') as the cooling water passes through too; but not the heating-ventilator.

There is a picture of a header tank that is a home made version of the official Citroen tool for refilling the cooling system on a Citroen C3 in this topic (here).

I have seen on that page before and followed the instructions. I even connected a tube from the bleeding point on the firewall. I mannaged to get a steady stream of coolant out. While i was constantly refilling the system. But after a trip there was still some air bubbeling out. The issue is coming and going which makes it quite frustrating

Question for the mechanics: Would it be possible perhaps, that there is a problem with the head gasket showing in this way?
So that there is air/gas (not oil this time) coming into the cooling water?

If there is a head gasket leak you could well be getting combustion gasses into the cooling system. Its a simple check that you can do yourself to detect combustion gasses in the coolant. Just buy one of these cheap kits on ebay (link here) and that can tell you and can help further diagnose the source of the mysterious (and frustrating) bubbles :)

Had the same issue after changing the timing belt and the water pump. The service guy didn't know the exact procedure (linked on the previous post) to remove air form the cooling system. After driving few kilometers the engine starts overheating. Thermostat changed but got the same results.
Tried everything; removed pipes, radiator, temp sensor, checked even the oil cooler on the gearbox and didn't find anything wrong.
Than tried a short drive without thermostat (kept just the elbow housing) and engine didn't overheat.

:D :D

Changed again the thermostat and followed carefully the instructions on how to get air outside the engine. :D

Warning:
When you change anything on the car that is related with the water, be careful to remove the air.

In my opinion the fist and second thermostat was "destroyed" from the high pressure caused from the air on the coolant.

Hope it helps.
