air conditioner not cooling

I have a manual air conditioner and it is really not cooling. With the fan on pressing the green light button a/c does not result in the desired effect though the green light remains on.

With the engine running I do not hear any click in the location of the a/c clutch/pulley.

1) So I was wondering will the a/c engage if the gas is low or too high (see https://citroenc3owners.com/questions-a ... t1629.html).

2) I've removed the yellow socket/plug (see pic) at the A/C compressor and only 5V comes to it whether the a/c button is active or not is that normal maybe that is a floating voltage when the plug is taken off.

3) Is there any wire I can check apart from the ones that goes to the clutch solenoid (see Q2) as I assume it goes through a relay or fuse though I cannot find a fuse for the a/c.
4) Also I wondered if there was a mechanical diagram of the a/c because I do not know if it is a severed pipe or a drain but one pipe just hangs down near the compressor! Actually update I think it is severed see picture. What can I do to find the pipe or pipes that connects? I suppose I need a good diagram to see whats missing!

Take it to F1 autocentre for an A/C check (book online) (or other A/C equipped garage).

They can check the level of refrigerant in the system safely, check for leaks with a vacuum test etc and can even refill the system if it passes the leak test.

You won't get the a/c clutch to engage without sufficient pressure in the system.

The picture isn't very clear but I will look for a diagram that may help.

The nearset I've found doing a reverse image search of the above kindly given diagram is below but it does not show the part number for the tubes only the seals! But since I've removed what remains of the tube and the label gives the part number of 9681275880 Maflow .

Having inspected the system the pipe numbered 2 in the diagram is missing.

Number 2 is 6477.02

but its is 6477.03 if you have a 4 speed automatic gearbox

The fixing nuts part 70 on the diagram is 6939.97 - NUT WITH CAPTIVE WASHER DIAMETER 6X100-7-18

A search brings up 9681275880 and shows this a/c pipe.

Did you work out how the original one got damaged?

The rubber hose part of it has been severed by a blade by somebody for some reason and looking further the condenser's element are falling out I'm not sure why as there is no sign of an impact unless the front bumper and impact section has been replaced after an accident at some point. The seller never mentioned the a/c did not work along with many other problems including a leaking injector

Thinking now what to do maybe remove the compressor as I need to replace the belt that is full of small splits to see if that's alright before trying to replace the condenser & missing pipe section.

It's going to be difficult to test the parts individually. Much easier to test a closed system, but you could easily be throwing good money after bad to replace the parts that are obviously defective and then find other parts that have failed and have to replace those too.

Testing the car fully before purchase is always good advice. Pressing all the buttons and knowing what to expect to see on the dashboard when it's switched on and then running. I know this is all useless advice to you now, but I hope it may help others looking to not just buy a C3, but any car

Time to trade it in?
