I have had my c3 pluriel for a year. It is 55 reg and has done less than 40000 miles. Was running well then steering bumpy yest morning so had it towed to Citroen dealer for diagnostics. Battery light had been staying on intermittently so was expecting.a battery/alternator problem. Garage phoned last night and said it needs new steering rack and ECU - £2800! Car is barely worth that much though we paid over £4k for it. Any advice?
I found someone yesterday who talked about resetting the computer or getting a refurbished rack but can't find again now!
Would appreciate any advice

Hi Casdix, welcome to the forum.

Looks like you have leant the hard way by ignoring dashboard warning lights (red ones!)

The warning you were getting may have been indicating a problem with the voltage regulation from the alternator. The poorly regulated power may well have damaged Steering ECU and Rack motor, or one or the other. It would be wise to find the cause of the fault indicated on the dashboard before putting replacment parts on the car.

You will need to have your replacment steering ECU recoded to the cars computer.

You can pick up the steering ECUs and the racks on ebay, have a look here for: Citroen C3 Steering ECU (here, eBay)

Buying used parts for a used car makes financial sense for things like ECUs and steering motors.

You won't need to reprogram the Steering ECU to the car, they just swap in.
