Hi,
I have a 2011 Model 1.6 120Bhp VTi C3 Exclusive Automatic.
Parked the car up and went to put the handbrake on but it won't lock on. Being an automatic the isn't too much of a problem but would like to get it working before the next MOT is due.
Basically what happens is you pull the Handbrake lever up but it doesn't click into place just returns to it's off position - there is resistance so don't think it's a cable problem (disk brackes and pads have been replaced front and back).
Is this an alectrical based lock or mechanical based locking mechanism? if mechanical would it be a new lever required?

it sounds like the ratchet is stuck, can you release it by pressing the release button a few times.
If you have the handbrake lever, its a mechanical system.
If the rear calipers have not been rewound correctly before replacing the pads it can make a mess of the automatic adjuster for the handbrake.
Does the handbrake move up seven clicks before it won't move any higher?
