Hi all, first post from a forum newbie. My son owns a 2006 1.4 HDi which has just started blowing starter fuses, first one was yesterday, put a new one in last night and it's blown again after (I think) it's second start attempt today. Having searched for this topic it looks like it's a Tom Jones occurrence (It's Not Unusual :D ), but I am presuming replacement of the starter motor is the fix for this long-term? I don't want to advise him on doing this only to find it still blows fuses as he's in low-wage jobs and can't afford to be throwing money at solutions which don't work, though I can't see what else would fix it as there's so little to a starter circuit, even on a (relatively) modern-design car such as this one (I'm an old fart whop started driving in 1988 so it's a 'new' design to me! :D ).
Feedback welcomed :)

Hi

Welcome to the forum

Yes, faulty starter/solenoid.

Replace the whole unit, not worth repairing.

You don't need to spend a fortune on one, new ones are not that expensive. I had this ebay sourced borg and beck one fitted while the clutch was being replaced as a matter of course. Its been fine.

Fitting is tricky, access is poor, get someone else to fit it that has a ramp.
