Hi I need to change the electric steering rack and last time I did this I had to switch the motor and gearbox from the old rack to the new one because the car wouldn't recognise the replacement rack and gave it no power. My question is, if I buy a rack and the steering ECU from the same car can I put both into my car without having to do any programming. Will the main ECU accept the steering ECU without issues? Thanks in advance. PS the reason I'm changing the rack...again...is because I've now got a groaning noise when doing slow parking manoeuvres, I've changed the top strut bearing to rule them out which only leaves the rack as the culprit.

Hi

The EPAS ECU is not coded to the car.

Best to change both the EPAS ECU and rack motor (or complete rack and motor is usual) at the same time because they can affect each other if faulty.
