2002 what is the mystery button?

I've got a great 2002 exclusive , on the dash there are the standard 6 buttons surrounding the stereo the third one down on the left has been scratched so I can see the symbol . When you press it in for a few seconds it lights up red , it's not the reverse sensor or child lock or cruise control warning , what is it .

I can only get it to light up just as I'm starting the vehicle and it soon goes off after a few miles ... Any ideas , it's not even showing in the user guide that came with the car .
