Hi Everyone. First post on this forum but very long time lurker as i have been reading all the posts on this forum that are related to my issue.
My poor C3 has no speedo and no power steering and i am now at a point that i can no longer think what else i can test o replace to fix my issue.
A few weeks ago i was driving around 30mph and out of nowhere the speedo started going crazy, going from 30mph to 0 and then back to 30mph and finally staying at 0.
While this was happening, the power steering becave VERY light and them very heavy until it just stay heavy permanently now.
The car runs and drives but with no speedo, power steering and also it stalls everytime i stop accelerating and press the clutch.
Fixes i have tried so far :
Replacing speed sensor
I have replaced the Speed sensor on the Gearbox (car has no ABS so my sensor is not on the wheels) because it was indeed broken. I removed and tested the speed sensor with a power supply and multimeter and it would not pickup on the hall sensor so i purchased a new one and replaced it... did not solve the problem as my speedo is still not working.
Replaced BSI
I Purchased a BSI from ebay and replaced it...no fix.. made no difference at all.
Tested the wires
I chased the 3 wires from the Speed sensor and they go straigh to the ECU so i know the wires are good, but still have no speedo (i still believe that once i get the speed working, the PAS will comeback )
Tested PAS ECU
To the best of my knowledge i tested the PAS ECU with a multimeter and made sure i have 12V going in to the ECU and i get 0V >12V on the output whenever i turn the steering wheel left or right just slightly
Purchased an ECU
Got on Ebay and ordered an ECU but unfortunatly (either my mistake or the seller) i ended up with an ECU that "fits" my car but does not work (all i got with the new ECU was a couple of relays clicking on and off constantly)
Can anyone guide me to what else i can poke and test to get this to work?
As far as i can understand the wireing loom, the Speed sensor sends the sigmal to the engine ECU that in turn sends the signal to the BSI and then goes to the PAS ECU.
I know for a fact that the wires from the speed sensor to the ECU have continuity but... i have no idea which wires are related to speed/power steering from the ECU to the BSI.
I do not have a Lexia diagnostic tool (only a standard OBD reader.
I also dont have any lights on the dash except a chime (3 times) every time i start the engine (same beep, beep, beep you get when you open the door or pull the handbrake with the engine running)
Yesterday i called 3 garages (because i dont know what more i can do) and they all refused to touch it because (and i quote) "its a 21 year old car the should be in the scrap yard"
Apologies for the long post but i wanted to give as much info as possible.
Thank you for your help in advance
have a great day

I would put everything back to an original condition.
The speed sensor has 3 wires on it.
Pin 1 goes to fuse F1 in the BSM (engine bay fuse box). Check for power @ pin 1 and chassis ground with engine running. Power comes out of pin2 of the 16 pin black connector of the BSM.
Pin 2 goes to ground. Check continuity to chassis.
Pin 3 goes to pin 14 of the 16 pin black connector in the BSM then out of pin 2 of the 10 pin black connector of the BSM to the engine ECU. I'm sorry but the writing on my circuit diagram is small and unreadable. I can't tell which pin in the engine ECU the wire then goes to.
I can only tell you it goes to the 48 pin black connector, and the wire number is 6739.
But I would check all the connectors in the BSM and engine ECU for corrosion.

Getting a lexia and not the other bits you didn't need would have made more sense.I do not have a Lexia diagnostic tool (only a standard OBD reader.
You could have done some of the basic testing with the lexia before buying any parts.
The lexia would then still provide service for other faults and further testing.

I agree but I have spend no money with the spare parts (except the replacement speed sensor that was definitely not working) as I have returned all the parts after agreeing with the seller to return if not fixed.
All the lexia tools I found are over £100.
If I were to find something along the £50 I will buy it.

If you can wait for delivery over the seas, try here for lexia from the country of manufacture.Single_clone wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:43 am All the lexia tools I found are over £100.

You will need an old laptop to install the software on, windows XP to 7 or run as a virtual machine on later hardware. See the lexia topics (here) for lexia help.

Hi All.
Just a quick update so you are not kept in the dark about this topic.
I have returned the ECU, refit the original BSI and will be driving it without Speedo and PAS for a few days until my new lexia tool arrives.
Placed an order for a kit at about 60ish quid and once it arrives I will scan the car and report back.
Surely that will give us more information that will maybe help you to help me.
Until then, have a great day and thank you for your help so far.

This can only be a wiring/connector problem. Either, between the speed pick up and the BSM. The speed pick up and ground, or between the BSM and the engine ECU. (Assuming the "new" speed pickup is OK!!!!)
LEXIA will only tell you that there is no speed info coming from the engine ECU. Not helpful, you know that.
From the engine ECU the speed info is converted to DATA and is transmitted along the engine bay CAN BUS. The engine bay CAN BUS MUST be OK as the engine starts!! So the problem has to be; no speed signal getting to the engine ECU.
Have you checked the connections I mentioned? Power, ground, signal? Checked connectors for corrosion?
