Hi people,
My wife's 04 plate C3 1.6 16V Sensodrive has always had a bit of a whine in 1st/2nd. Recently the noise has got worse & affects 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear. As soon as it changes to 4th the noise goes & 5th is fine too. You get the noise back as it icks down to 3rd & all the way back to 1st. If anything the kickdown/slowdown noise is worse than the acceleration one. I've changed the gearbox oil without affect. I've jacked it up & run it with the front wheels off the ground & no whirring noise so it seems to be only when under load.
Any help appreciated!

Hi zebedee2001, how did the old oil compare to the new oil?
You can tell a bit about the condition of the box from the oil.

Oil stank! Had a black tinge to it. There wasn't a magnet on the end of the drain plug. I wonder if the magnet has been injested into the gearbox! No metal fragments came out with the oil.

Gearbox oil does have its own unique smell, but if it is different from the smelly fresh stuff you have a problem.
A black tinge doesn't sound good either.
I would imagine a second hand, decent box would be a way forward. Fixing parts in gearboxes is not usually economical for the C3.

Anybody got a link to the exploded diagrams of the gearbox? Started taking it apart & I think they would help! It looks like the input shaft bearing has gone....

Anybody know if item 16 in the attached draiwing is fitted to C3 sensodrive gearboxes? The attached image
is from a foreign 206 gearbox re-assembly procedure & is the only MA rebuild documents I can find. My gearbox doesn't appear to have it or I have lost it! Need to find out which case I have! There is another difference with the selector but I know I haven't lost any bits of that!-

It doesn't appear in my diagram for a 2009 MA sensodrive gearbox fitted to the C3.zebedee2001 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 24, 2018 3:23 pm Anybody know if item 16 in the attached draiwing is fitted to C3 sensodrive gearboxes? The attached image
The reverse gear (6) and its retaining shaft (7) doesn't show the bearing device that your diagram shows.
This would make sense because its very unlikely yours would be missing or lost
