I got a 2004 yesterday when it stops on an incline its sliding backwards also if reversing on an incline it slides forward and its juddery until I reach about 25/30 is it just me or have I been sold a dud

I don't know about being a dud because you accepted this 'sliding' when you took the car for a test drive. If the car had faults you are happy to live with or repair then negociate on the cost before handing over any money.
It sounds like a slipping clutch plate but could also be the actuator, quite often the clutch kit and actuator will be changed together anyway. The reasoning is that the clutch parts and and actuator have all done the same miles and have the same wear.
At 88000 miles its a bit low for a new clutch on a sensodrive, but you never know what previous owners have been doing with it
