Hello:
I have a C3 2003 with a automatic gearbox, but am not sure of the type of gearbox yet, it is the one where you can set it to auto, But can also switch it to manual mode with the gear selector and 'nudge' up and down gears, I do NOT have the flappy paddles at the steering wheel.
Please can someone clarify - is this the sensodrive box or something else?
Next: Can anyone advise where I top up the oil in the gearbox, I found a small filling point of black plastic on the front halfway down the engine, and think this might be it but am not sure.
The drain plug was dripping oil (now fixed), and now the gears are not engaging properly, It's a bit juddery, then the S and snowflake flash. After a while when it is all warmed up however, it works fine, until the next time the engine cools down.
I'm hoping that topping up the oil will solve my problem.
Thanks:
Ian

Hello Icarusbop
Sensodrive has flappy paddles and/or a standard looking manual gear shifter stick, but without the numbers (1,2,3,4,5). Its a manual gearbox adapted to semi-automatic with clutch and gear actuators and ECU.
Sensodrive has a clutch, but no clutch pedal. No 'Park' or 'Drive'. You can drive the car in semi or auto mode.
The gear stick looks like:
or
The other is the classic automatic gearbox, full auto, designed to be auto from the start, no clutch. Its got the familiar PRND marking and the selector looks like:
Sounds like you are describing sensodrive.

The semi automatic with a computer operated clutch and gear selector. If this is the case its a standard 5 speed gear box and takes the Total BV 75W80 Transmission oil (2L)

Otherwise its an AL4 fully automatic, have a look here for fill and drain:

The gear box fill point is usually on the end of the gear box, you will have to remove the near side wheel to access it (and sometimes the inner wheel arch).Next: Can anyone advise where I top up the oil in the gearbox, I found a small filling point of black plastic on the front halfway down the engine, and think this might be it but am not sure.

It looks just like this (PRND)Icarusbop wrote:Thanks for the replies - my gearstick looks nothing like the pictures above.
and nothing like the sensodrive one.
Its a full auto using an AL4 gearbox. Driving with low oil will damage the gearbox

See these links for drain and refill (some are 'sealed for life'

Gura:
Thanks for ytour response, my picture has the PRND but also, off D you can shift the stick left, and from there you can gear+ and gear - manually.
Is this the same gearbox? as the standard PRND?
Thanks

The pictures are of the gear selectors. There is only one PRND gearbox on the year of your car and that is the AL4. When it comes to oil, all the versions of AL4 take the same special transmission oil.Icarusbop wrote:Gura:

The pictures you added are for a different model C3, one from 2011, which makes it a C3 (A51).Model: C3 2002-2005, Original shape model

The other automatic gearbox for your year is the semi-automatic sensodrive that has a completely different gear selector to yours.
