Can you get a C3 with a proper auto gearbox. Changed the 2 solenoids and it has run good for a year, but playing up again, same symptoms as before. Is there a Pug box that will fit, what options are there

Hi deanno

The full auto gearbox in the C3 is the same as the one in the peugeot 307 and other models of a similar year. Its the AL4 model of gearbox and you will find the ones fitted in Peugeot have the same fault with early valves as did the ones fitted in Citroen models.

If you have a symptom that is the same as a previous fault that has since been repaired, it would still be a good idea to do the diagnostics again to prove which part is at fault. Same symptoms doesn't mean same fault.

Some of the early solenoids were changed because they gave problems, a new valve was fitted and these don't give so much trouble. Was yours fitted with the faulty valves and better ones fitted - along with the new software in the gearbox ECU?

Well it appears it's not the same cause, different fault code this time. I did upgrade the software at the same time. The code i get from Lexia this time was - Temporary fault slipping/brake clutch - 02. The oil last time was really black and dirty looking, but i only changed what i could drain off, so about 4.5L. Do you think it would benefit from another 2/3 oil changes to try and get all the old crap out.

I don't see how it could do any harm by completely draining out all the bad oil. It could be worth a shot.

But, if it is bad oil in there, then there is a reason for that and this needs to be found and fixed?

Is the 'Temporary fault slipping/brake clutch - 02' caused by the bad oil, which is possible or could it be that 'Temporary fault slipping/brake clutch - 02' has made the oil contaminated, which is also possible.
