Hi,
Just wondering if anybody has ever actually, even after going to a citroen garage, has got to the bottom of their safe mode issues with their autobox? I read every where that its either the simplest thing like water getting into the injector(through washer spray), or a fuse that needs replacing, or its a whole gearbox change! Any recommendations here other than go find the guy that sold this to my girlfriend 3 days ago?!
Car runs fine, give it a few revs after a night parked and it goes into safe mode, park, restart, then its fine for the day!
It nearly feels like the problem is just safe mode itself as the car runs fine otherwise!

Welcome to the forum osuldavid,
"safe mode"? sounds like just a generic error that can be caused by many different things, hence the differing solutions offered by others that have had the same error message. With something so general, what you need to do is get a more specific error code (or codes) to help you look in the right direction. The dealer can do this, but there are tools available to allow the home user to have a go too.
Can you confirm where the message appeared? and are you sure it said 'safe mode'?
For the Citroen C3, the lexia tool is a copy of the main dealer tool and well suited to a 2002 C3. In fact, the only OBD type reader that will be guaranteed to communicate with a 2002 model car.
Getting lexia installed on a laptop its a bit of a fiddle, but well worth the hassle in the depth of diagnostics and testing the thing can do.

Hi,
Safe mode, as in when it goes into 3rd gear and stays there until you turn the car off and on again!
Think a diagnostic session is necessary, so gonna get that done tomorrow!
Have an iobd2 reader but ya your right, it doesnt read the codes!
Ill come back when I see what the diagnostic session comes up with!

Thanks,Safe mode, as in when it goes into 3rd gear and stays there until you turn the car off and on again!
Quite possibly. Have you tried clearing the error? and if so, does it come back again?P0603 - internal control module keep alive memory (kam) error.
Trouble is, there is no indication if this is a historic fault or its a permanent fault.
The P0603 seems to be battery/charge related, but possibly bad earth or supply to the electronics or an internal ECU problem

Its sounds like it could be battery charge related. It would be worth checking the battery and charging system before replacing expensive computer components.Car runs fine, give it a few revs after a night parked and it goes into safe mode, park, restart, then its fine for the day!
