Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

Hi everyone, Due to lockdown my battery went flat. I've recharged the battery and run through the B.S.I. procedure to reset the computer. The correct information appears on the screen. The key turns the engine but there is no attempt for the starter to engage. Then the system faults out and I have ...

Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

Battery seems fine and was charged for only 4 hours. It is less than 4 years old. Unfortunately seems fine and being under 4 years old doesn't mean your battery is fine. A flat battery especially in cold weather can easily kill it , at 4 years old your battery is no spring chicken to start with. Gi...

Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

Thanks I will get the battery tested. I hope that is all it is. No, sorry. A battery test will prove it bad or good. It won't fix anything. The test is to save money in replacing a battery that may not be bad, but with your description of events, including the short recharge time, it really does po...

Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

The battery passed its test and displays 12.8 volts. It turns the engine well and the lights are as strong as they should be. The starter motor doesn't try to engage and the fuse is OK. Perhaps I should try a bump start but I may end up with the car in the road that I can't move. Any other thoughts...

Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

Not immo, got fuel....

can be cam belt, that's common, best to inspect visually for that, the teeth get stripped off at a section rather than the belt snapping.

Could have an injection fault, use an OBD reader (here) to read the codes.

The key turns the engine but there is no attempt for the starter to engage. It turns the engine well and the lights are as strong as they should be. The starter motor doesn't try to engage and the fuse is OK. Umm...what do you mean by "it turns the engine"??? Because you then go on to say...

What do you mean by this and does it do that now the battery has been recharged? I assume the battery was recharged to be tested?

Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

The comment about resetting from an earlier post is because it seems to only give me a certain number of attempts before the battery light starts flashing and the screen reads economy mode. Eco mode is designed to protect the battery from discharging too much when the engine isn't running, so it wo...

Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

Thanks for the thoughts about the battery. I will take it to a battery shop tomorrow as I only used a volt meter. I haven't been out to a shop for 3 months. When I cleared the economy mode so that all seemed correct on the display just now, I noticed a constant noise coming from behind the battery ...

Re: Recharged battery and now will not start

I will take it to a battery shop tomorrow as I only used a volt meter. Putting a multimeter on the battery is not good enough. You can try loading the battery up with the headlights and see if the battery voltage falls. You can also try starting it (after your reset procedure) and also see if the b...
