Re: Auto selector sticks in park

Tracked fault down. Used LEXIA to monitor brake switch. It has two sets of contacts. 1 set is used by the BSI to turn the brake lights on and the other is used by the automatic gearbox to unlock the gear selector. pictures 001.jpg pictures 002.jpg The two sets should always be opposite, that is, if ...

Re: Auto selector sticks in park

Thanks Arfur. To answer my own question, yes. IF the engine is running AND the shifter is in park AND you put your foot on the brake the shift lock solenoid will dis-engage every time. So if you tap and release the brake you will hear the solenoid engaging and dis-engaging but only in park. When I f...

Re: Auto selector sticks in park

So I pulled the brake switch apart to see what was going on. Here is what I was confronted with. switch001.jpg contacts.jpg The actual contacts are molded into a carrier. I used a small piece of fine 'wet and dry' sand paper wedged between each contact to clean them. I put the contact carrier back i...

Re: General approach to repairs and diagnostics Diagbox question

1) Whats the 'work flow' for using the diagbox?? I It all depends on what you want to achieve, from making changes to the configuration (e.g. adding keys) to diagnosing faults. To fix faults: Scan for errors from the main diagnostic screen, Call up the fault and read it's description (in this case ...

Re: General approach to repairs and diagnostics Diagbox question

Excellent answers. Technicians' experience is always required. To support them, car manufacturers provide guided diagnostics systems. These systems read diagnostic data and also ask the technicians to perform certain steps like revving the engine and then answer questions such as "did you see b...

Re: General approach to repairs and diagnostics Diagbox question

The hardest thing with LEXIA is getting the software and hardware working. If you have managed to do that you are well on your way. My first LEXIA had a fault in the hardware, so I had no idea what was going on until I got new hardware that was working. The first LEXIA would only read the engine ECU...

Re: Picasso Auto feels like its drifting in neutral, no response from accel. pedal,

Hi Mike You may have old faults stored, ones that are no longer relevant. Can you delete all the codes, all those that are not permanent. Then drive the car and collect new codes as the fault appears. Read the new faults and you can then look at just the most recent ones focus on them. Post your scr...

Re: Picasso Auto feels like its drifting in neutral, no response from accel. pedal,

As you know the brake switch has two sets of contacts. One set for the brake lights and one set going to the auto gearbox. The set going to the gearbox is used for unlocking the park position of the selector and also used to tell the gearbox that you are braking so it can adjust its shift pattern. A...

Re: Picasso Auto feels like its drifting in neutral, no response from accel. pedal,

I am thinking the P2299 accelerator pedal fault might be causing the 'break down' and failure of the car to move.
However while the car is serviceable, tracking it down is going to be impossible.
You could try disconnecting the accelerator pedal and see if the digits for the auto selector disappear?
